What we believe
Our local congregation is voluntarily connected to the Evangelical Covenant Church of America. We enjoy a rich history with a greater collection of Scandinavian believers who settled in US in the 1880’s.
We are a relational denomination with strong ties between churches, clergy and people. The Covenant have over 800 churches in the US and cooperates with work in dozen’s of countries overseas.
In agreement with Paul’s encouragement to Timothy “The goal of this command (stop arguing) is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” 1 Tim 1:5 We seek to walk in love with God and others, using the Bible as our foundation and agreeing on the following affirmations.
The Evangelical Covenant Church seeks to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engaged in Christ’s mission in the world. The purpose of Covenant affirmations is to make clear the values and principles that have guided the Evangelical Covenant Church since its founding in 1885.
For Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call Covenant Affirmations:
We affirm the centrality of the Word of God.
We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.
We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers.
We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.
