Who We Are
WELCOME TO DEERBROOK COVENANT CHURCH
Our worship services are Sundays 10:00 AM. Children's Adventure Club & SHIELD Youth Group meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm.
We are committed to our identity of being a Bible based, loving community. We listen for God's continual guidance and his opening of our hearts. Our congregation represents a broad cross section of people with differing backgrounds.
All who are seeking Jesus are welcome to join with us for heartfelt worship, a life-transforming walk with Jesus, compelling Christian community, and engagement in our community and Christ's mission in the World.
Deerbrook Kids and The Shield Student Ministries invest in our youth as they are the future of our church family. We make sure your children are well taken care of and we also have a lot of fun with them while strengthening their faith! Our outside ministries focus on assisting our community in different ways. No doubt, there is a way for everyone to get involved and grow their relationship with Jesus.
OUR MISSION
We are a Bible-based, loving community that brings people to Jesus, equips people for spiritual growth and sends people to serve in Jesus' name.
HISTORY
Our church family has served the community of Lee's Summit and Eastern Jackson County since 1994.Planting a new church in Lee's Summit was initiated by the Holy Spirit in 1994 by connecting the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination, recent Gordon-Conwell Seminary graduate Gary Schmitz and Hillcrest Covenant Church of Prairie Village, KS. A small number of people began gathering together in 1995 in homes in the Oak Tree & Deerbrook neighborhoods of Lee's Summit with the intent to form a Covenant Church. Eventually, the growing congregation met at Campbell Middle School for a number of years.
A commitment to God's leading, children & youth ministries and contemporary worship music helped the congregation connect and prosper. In March 2002, we enjoyed the blessings of a new place as our church facility on Tudor Road was completed. A remarkable outpouring of God's Spirit and grace took hold of us in 2003 and marked our emphasis on prayer ministry.
Deerbrook has become connected with several local ministries including Wheels for Freedom, supporting Langsford House & Pro-Deo youth ministry, Meadow Lane Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity and most recently our community garden. In addition, we have sent out multiple families as missionaries. In addition, meeting together in small group Bible studies has been a long-standing value at Deerbrook.
Our congregation has been blessed by wonderful leaders and solid families over the past two decades. In 2006, Pastor Schmitz moved on to to lead K.C.'s City-Wide Prayer Ministry. Our current staff consists of Senior Pastor Roger Gilbert, Pastor of Spiritual Formation Joyce Norman, Youth Director Preston LaFollette, Worship Director Renae Kitchin, and Ministry Support staff of Emily Wages and Laura Wissel.
We listen for God's continual guidance and his opening our doors of hearts with love. Our average Sunday attendance represents a broad cross section of people of differing backgrounds, ages, and race.
